Centre for cricket gets green light
A state-of-the-art cricket training centre has been given the green light for a site next to Truro College.
Planning permission has been granted for the new Cornwall Cricket Board centre next to the Lynher building at Truro College.
The centre will offer training and coaching to clubs and cricketers from across the county and pupils at the college will be able to take advantage of the facilities during weekdays.
Programme team leader for sport at Truro College, Emma Adams, said: "This fantastic development at the Truro College site will enhance the standards for the college's cricket academy as well as other players in the community.
"The project marks the culmination of five years of hard work by Cornwall Cricket Board, which has been supported enthusiastically by Truro College."
Mrs Adams said the building would also be used during weekdays as an excellent additional facility for the college's students.
She added the centre would give a boost to their already successful cricket academy meaning players would go from strength to strength.
The cricket academy is part of the academy system at the college where students can pursue their chosen sport while studying full time for A-Levels and vocational qualifications.
The centre is due to be completed next year and will be the first purpose built indoor facility in Cornwall.
It is designed to house five indoor cricket lanes, changing areas, meeting rooms and state-of-the-art video analysis equipment.
The new training facilities will allow cricketers to train through the winter months.
Cornwall's cricket development officer, Joe Skinner, who works to raise the standard of cricket across Cornwall will also be based at the site.
Mr Skinner said: "The board received fantastic support from Truro College to help make this happen.
"The centre will be for everyone in the county and will be one of the best facilities in the South West."
He added all aspects of cricket in Cornwall would benefit, from elite players right down to people just starting out.
