Man accused of Longdown deaths appears in court

The man accused of causing the deaths of a Methodist preacher and his teacher wife at Longdowns appeared in court this morning.

Falmouth gas fitter Graham Thacker spoke only to confirm his name and to plead not guilty at Truro Crown Court to having caused the deaths of David and Lynn Green by driving dangerously on the A394 near Longdowns on August 7 last year.

Thacker, of Pitt Meadow, Longfield, was at the wheel of a P-registered Citroen Saxo when it was involved in a collision with a car being driven by 55-year-old Mr Green, with his 53-year-old wife Lynn as a passenger.

Mr Green, a well-known farmer who had also taught at Duchy College and was a Methodist preacher, died alongside his wife, a teacher at Truro High School, at the scene.

Thacker was granted unconditional bail by Judge Christopher Elwen and his trial, which is expected to last four days, was fixed for December 15.
